Handy person service

The Age UK Warwickshire handy person service called operates throughout all five district and borough council areas of Warwickshire.

The service is for people who are aged 50 and over or those who have a learning, physical or sensory disability of any age.

The service provides minor repairs to domestic properties within the County. The works are carried out by a team of handypeople, who are employed directly by Age UK Warwickshire and who have all been vetted through the Criminal Records Bureau for their suitability for working with older people.

Examples of work which can be undertaken are*:-

  • Fixing a dripping tap
  • Easing doors
  • Fitting Keysafes and grab rails
  • Moving furniture
  • Fixing the fence or even taking down the curtains

*The service is funded by Warwickshire County Council, supported by borough and district councils. If you are in receipt of benefits you may qualify for a reduced hourly rate.

Please note that the scheme does not cover electrical, gas or roof work or repairs to domestic appliances.


This is a chargeable service and the current rates for the 12 months from 1 March 2010 are:

Reduced rate – For those on a means tested benefit
£5.00 per hour (minimum charge – 1 hour) All materials used are charged at an extra cost.

Standard rate
£18.50 per hour (minimum charge -1 hour) plus 46p per mile travelling expenses from the Handyman’s home to client. All materials used are charged at an extra cost.

Clients can supply their own parts, no extra charge will be incurred other than the labour charge to fit the parts

All costs include VAT.
