Marking 60 years of The Queen’s reign, the Diamond Jubilee celebrations centered around an extended weekend on 2, 3, 4 and 5 June.
60 years of The Queen’s reign
The Queen came to the throne on 6 February 1952 and her coronation took place on 2 June 1953. She celebrated her Silver Jubilee (25 years) in 1977 and her Golden Jubilee (50 years) in 2002.
The central weekend, 2-5 June
The residents of Shotteswell celebrated the Jubilee over the extended bank holiday weekend, and we will be bringing you photographs of the various activities in due course.
Despite the weather, the vast majority of villagers turned out and joined in. There was an excellent barn dance on Saturday night, a treasure hunt on Sunday and a superb BBQ and game of rounders in the park on Monday, where we also lit a celebration beacon. If you have photographs or something to say about the weekend, please send them in for publishing on the site.
Let’s make shotteswell.com a success!
